Frequently Asked Questions
DO YOU ALSO CUT THE KEY TEETH?
Nope.
WHY NOT?
Would you feel safe sending someone your house key and home address? We wouldn’t.
SO HOW CAN I GET MY KEYS CUT?
Most Home Depot and Lowes would cut your key for free (call ahead to make sure they have the manual machines still). Any local locksmith would cut your key for a small fee. Just bring the Okeydoke blank and your original house key and ask for a duplicate.
WHAT ARE KEYWAYS AND HOW DO I KNOW WHICH ONE IS CORRECT?
Keyways are the shape of the key specific to each manufacturer. Take a look at different keys from the tip and you’ll notice they’re different shapes, meant for different lock hole designs. AN SC1 KEY WILL NOT FIT IN A KW1 KEYHOLE AND VICE VERSA.
The easiest way to determine your keyway is to look at the head (bow) of the key. Then, match it to the diagram on the key store page for your keyway.
If you’re still unsure, feel free to send a pic of your key to @okeydoke_keys on IG or email okeydokekeys@gmail.com and we’ll figure it out together.
RETURN POLICY?
Keys can be returned for any reason as long as they haven’t been cut. An uncut key blank will fit in your lock hole, so double check before cutting.
Please make sure you have the correct keyway for your key before purchasing.
CAN I GET A CUSTOM DESIGNED KEY?
Yes! Send us a reference image on Instagram or by email and we can discuss if the custom key is doable.
Best images that translate well to keys are anime or cartoons with clean, bold lines. Realistic photographs would be difficult to make look accurate, but not impossible. Images with lots of fine details would need to be simplified. Just send us what you want designed, and we’ll chat.
Lead time for a custom key would generally be 1-2 weeks.
If we like your design and you’re cool with us selling your custom design on the shop, we would give you your custom at a discount.
WHAT IS A KEY?
Merriam Webster defines key as: a usually metal instrument by which the bolt of a lock is turned. You know what a key is. You got this.
